Another year of bowling has passed with mixed fortunes for some of the teams in the Fleetwood and District League played Monday and Thursday. We are represented by 4 teams, the 1st team captained by Eric Walderman finished mid table in the 1st division, Dave Walters came out 8th in the league averages. The 2nd team captained by Neil Glover finished in 4th place in the 2nd division, Ray Taylor and Ron Myerscough finished 6th and 7th in the league averages. The 3rd team captained by Bob Willis also finished 4th in the 3rd division with Bob finishing on 2nd place in the league averages, three others Wilf Walsh,Kevin Byrne and Dave Hislop finishing 10th,11th and 12th respectively. The 4th team captained by Mick Lovell finished at the bottom in there 1st season but im sure they won't be in that position next season. Thornton Cleveleys Mens Bowling played Friday night. 2 teams represent the club, the 1st team captained by Colin Broadbent ended the season in 5th place, the 2nd team captained by Fred Leach finished there season in 4th place with Ron Myerscough in 5th place in the league averages. The Welcome league played Monday afternoon saw the team captained by Dave Douglas playing in the 1st division, after a difficult season managed to keep there 1st division status with some good end of season results. On Tuesday afternoon we have a team playing in the Fylde Vets league, captained by Bob Willis the team finished 5th in the league with Bob 8th in the league averages.Bobs team also won the Fylde Vets north section cup final .Fylde Amateur Ladies Thursday afternoon. After a difficult season caused by players not available and illness the team were relegated to the 3rd division, they still had 2 players in the league averages namely Sue Newton and Marie Reed who finished 10th and 11th respectively. I understand they will have new players for next season so a quick return to the 2nd division will be a possibility. Blackpool and Wyre Bowling played on Tuesday nights. Congratulations to the captain and team for getting promoted to the 2nd division after finishing top of the 3rd. Sue Newton also topped the league averages with Sue Zac also finishing in the top 15. The bowling green keeps on improving and the comments from visiting teams endorses that.We have entertained an inter cup qualifier for the 1st time and showed that we can accommodate these games with the cricket club facilities, and this has not gone unnoticed. I would like to congratulate all teams who have taken part in this seasons games and trust they will enjoy next season just as much. The bowling green is now closed for the winter and will reopen towards the end of Feb into early March 2014.
